The spiral grooves are cut into both surfaces of an interference fit joint which allows free movement under applied stress without any risk of leakage, galling, or shear.
Parallel Groove Type:
Parallel grooves are cuts made parallel to the length of a log. The logs are split into rings with evenly spaced cuts, producing what is called a “ Parallel Groove Type”. Highly elastic coupling can be manufactured using parallel groove type wood; however, other types of wood such as Red Oak, White Oak and Poplar can also be used for manufacturing highly elastic couplings.
