A direct exchange geothermal heat pump (DX) is a type of geothermal heat pump that uses a refrigerant to transfer thermal energy between two adjacent loops of piping, one inside and one outside the building. The DX geometry differs from other types of ground source heat pumps in that the outdoor loop exchanges energy directly with the ground, while the indoor loop exchanges energy with indoor air via a coil.
Vertical Type:
Vertical type is the simplest form of heat pump. It is a device that extracts heat from the earth and transfers it to an area where it's needed. Vertical type can be used for both heating and cooling purposes, but its primary function is to provide heating.
Horizontal Type:
Horizontal type direct exchange geothermal heat pump is used to transfer heat from the ground surface to a building or another location for space heating, cooling, and hot water generation applications. Horizontal type DExHPPs are most commonly used in residential buildings for space heating and cooling applications. The main advantage of horizontal type DExHPP over vertical flow design is that the former can be installed at an angle of more than 60 degrees without any structural changes to the building structure.
Application Insights:
The application segment includes energy and others. The others segment mainly includes commercial applications while the energy category comprises both residential and non-residential applications. Residential is the largest application sector of DEGHP across various regions owing to increasing awareness about cost-effectiveness, coupled with a growing population in urban areas looking for affordable housing solutions.
