Market Overview:
The global distributed energy generation market is expected to grow from USD XX billion in 2018 to USD XX billion by 2030, at a CAGR of XX%. The growth of the market can be attributed to the increasing demand for distributed energy generation systems due to the rising concerns about climate change and greenhouse gas emissions. Additionally, government initiatives and policies supporting the deployment of renewable energy are also fueling the growth of this market. The solar PV segment is expected to hold the largest share of the global distributed energy generation market during the forecast period. This can be attributed to factors such as declining costs of solar PV systems, growing awareness about solar power among consumers, and increasing installation capacity worldwide.
Product Definition:
Distributed Energy Generation (DEG) is the process of producing energy at or near the point where it will be used. The purpose of DEG is to improve system efficiency, reduce environmental impacts, and/or improve security.
Solar PV:
Solar PV, or photovoltaic, is a technology that uses the sun's energy to generate electricity. The basic components of a solar PV system are a solar panel (or panels), an inverter, and an electric battery. A solar panel consists of crystalline silicon that absorbs sunlight and then converts it into electrical energy using semiconductors.
CHP:
Central Heat and Power (CHP) is a form of distributed energy generation in which heat generated by one process is used to generate power by another process. In most cases, the heat source and the power generating unit are located in close proximity to each other. CHP systems can be used for both electricity production as well as for heating purposes. The system works on various principles such as thermodynamic cycle, thermal storage, regenerative braking among others.
Application Insights:
The application segment includes rural areas and urban areas. The rural areas application segment dominated the market in 2017, accounting for over 60% of the total revenue share. This is attributed to the fact that most of the population living in rural regions has no access to electricity grid due to geographical constraints or financial limitations. Thus, they opt for distributed generation as an alternative source of energy supply which provides power directly into their homes through solar PV panels or wind turbines installed on roofs top.
The growing need for clean and renewable sources of energy supply across developing countries including India and China is expected to boost product demand over the forecast period. In addition, governments from various countries have taken several initiatives such as feed-in tariff schemes which encourages households/small businesses/communities/villages to generate their own power using solar PV panels or small wind turbines thereby driving industry growth further during future years (2030 - 2038).
Regional Analysis:
Asia Pacific is expected to emerge as the fastest-growing regional market over the forecast period. The growth can be attributed to increasing government funding for renewable energy, which has resulted in a growing number of solar PV installations across countries such as China and Japan. In addition, favorable government policies and rising awareness regarding clean energy are anticipated to drive demand over the next eight years.
Europe accounted for more than 25% of global market share in 2016 owing to early adoption of distributed generation technologies coupled with supportive regulations aimed at reducing carbon footprint by promoting clean distributed generation sources such as CHP systems and small wind turbines. However, sluggish growth rate observed in Germany since 2017 on account of changing political dynamics is expected to hamper overall European market development during the forecast period. North America region also accounted for significant revenue share due its early acceptance towards Distributed Energy Resources (DERs). Presence of prominent players operating within U.S.
Growth Factors:
- Increasing demand for electricity due to population growth and industrialization
- Government policies and regulations supporting distributed energy generation
- Rising cost of traditional energy sources such as oil, gas, and coal
- Technological advancements in distributed energy generation technologies
- Growing awareness about the benefits of distributed energy generation
