Nonlinear optical crystals can be classified into four types: KTP, BBO, LBO, and CLBO. KTP is a potassium titanyl phosphate crystal which has been used for many years in lasers because it has high nonlinearity and low absorption loss. BBO is barium borate which has been used for many years as well because it has high nonlinearity and low absorption loss. LBO stands for lithium triborate which was developed in the 1990s as an alternative to KTP due to its lower cost and higher damage threshold than KTP crystals. CLBO stands for calcium lead borate which was developed in the 1990s as an alternative to BBO due to its lower cost and higher damage threshold than BBO crystals.
