Market Overview:
The global laboratory balances market is expected to grow at a CAGR of 5.5% from 2018 to 2030. The growth in the market can be attributed to the increasing demand for laboratory balances in research and development activities, and rising number of university and research center laboratories. North America is expected to lead the global laboratory balances market during the forecast period, followed by Europe. Asia Pacific is projected to be the fastest-growing region during the forecast period.
Product Definition:
A laboratory balance is an instrument used to measure the mass or weight of an object. Laboratory balances are important because they allow scientists to accurately measure the mass of a substance.
Top Loading Balance:
Top loading balance is a mechanical device used in laboratories for weighing sensitive materials. It’s an alternative to traditional beam balances and has the advantage of being able to be used with smaller sample weights. The design includes a platform that can be raised or lowered on rails, which allows access to various compartments holding samples. A spring loaded mechanism in each compartment ensures that the samples are level during weigh-in, reducing any effect of vibration or movement caused by the engine running nearby.
Analytical Balance:
Analytical balance is a device used in weighing various chemical compounds. It's an analytical instrument that helps in measuring the mass of an element on the basis of its reaction with a sensitive detector. The most common types of balances used are digital and traditional analytical balance. Analytical balancers can be single-user or multi-user systems depending upon the number of detectors needed to perform analysis at one time or multiple users sharing a common detector for performing several tests simultaneously.
Application Insights:
The others application segment includes government and military laboratories. University-based laboratory balances are majorly used for research purposes with a few being used in educational institutions, industrial facilities, hospitals and other medical centers. The balance is an important tool in the hands of researchers to perform various weighing tasks including drug discovery activities, quality control & standardization procedures and food analysis.
The balance is considered as one of the basic instruments that support analytical chemistry due to its wide applications in various fields such as pharmaceuticals, forensics science, environmental testing & monitoring etc. In addition to these uses it also finds applications in research centers where it is mainly used for weighing out chemicals or reagents required during experiments or trials etc., which include compounds needed for chemical reactions or solutions that need diluting before they are added into another solution tank etc.
Regional Analysis:
North America dominated the global market in terms of revenue share in 2017. This can be attributed to the presence of a large number of research centers and universities, which use balances for research activities. The U.S.-based National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) is one such organization that uses laboratory balances for testing purposes.
Growth Factors:
- Increasing demand for laboratory balances from the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries due to the increasing research and development activities in these sectors.
- Growing demand for laboratory balances from academic institutions and research organizations due to the increasing number of research projects being undertaken by these institutes.
- Rising demand for high-precision laboratory balances from chemical, food, and other industrial laboratories owing to the need for accurate weight measurements in these laboratories.
- Increasing adoption of automated laboratory balance systems by various laboratories due to their advantages such as improved accuracy, speed, and efficiency over manual weighing systems.
