Product Definition:
Engineered quartz is a composite material made of natural quartz crystals and resins. It is used to make countertops, flooring, walls, tiles and other surfaces. Engineered quartz is strong, durable and scratch-resistant.
Phaneromer Quartz:
Phaneromer quartz is a type of mineraloid with composition SiO2. It has transparent appearance and can be seen in shades of white, colorless, yellowish or grey. Phanerochaetal formation is rare and it occurs when calcium carbonate decays slowly under the influence of heat and light. The process takes place over a long period (millions of years).
Cryptocrystalline Quartz:
Cryptocrystalline quartz is a form of rock crystal. It has an extremely high melting point and thus can be used as an ideal material for applications requiring high temperature. The crystals are transparent owing to their internal structure which consists of many small air pockets, hence they can be used in heat resistant applications. Crystals are naturally formed from the solidification of liquid rock; however, in order to obtain quality crystals, certain processes such as hydrothermal or epoxy resin treatment are adopted.
Application Insights:
Commercial applications include water heaters, air conditioners, refrigerators and freezers, shower walls and floorsing systems among others. The commercial segment dominated the overall market in terms of revenue in 2017. Engineered quartz is used as a replacement for mineral wool which is used as insulating material in air conditioning and refrigeration systems. It offers superior soundproofing properties along with ease of installation which are likely to drive its demand over the forecast period.
