It works as a part of steam distribution system and helps in maintaining pressure in the boiler. The working principle of horizontal boilers is same as that of vertical ones, i.e., they use moving parts (pipes) for conducting steam from one place to another within a vessel or container where heat can be applied which results in conversion into useful energy form known as Steam.
