A differential is a gear train that allows two or more shafts to rotate at different speeds while transmitting power from one shaft to another. Hypoid Differential Gears:
Hypoid differential gears are used in transmission systems of automobiles. The prime function of these gears is to provide high torque at low speed and low speed respectively. These differential gears find their application in vehicles that have 4WD or AWD drivetrains, where the power required for each wheel differs and the gear ratio needs to be altered accordingly.
Spiral Differential Gears:
Differential gears are used in transmission systems of vehicles to allow the wheels to rotate at different speeds. The speed difference between the wheel is converted into torque which helps in driving the vehicle. Differential gears are used as a ratio 1:1, 2:1, 3:2, and 4:3.
Differential gears have three components namely input gear (driven), output gear (driven), and sun gear (driving).
