Lung surfactants also play an important role in innate immunity by inhibiting growth of bacteria and viruses.
Intratracheal:
Intratracheal is a term used for substances that are administered through the trachea (windpipe) into the lungs. The most common route of administration is by inhalation, although it can also be administered intracompany or intradermally. Intratracheal products include dry powder formulations such as freon, nebulized liquids such as saline solution and surfactant solutions, and liquid aerosols.
Injectable:
Injectable or Intravenous Surfactant (IVS) is a surfactant that can be delivered by injection into the vein. The most common type of injectable used in lung surfactants market is Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS).
The advantages of using IVS are it has a very fast onset of action, it’s cost-effective.
