Market Overview:
The global power plant boilers market is expected to grow at a CAGR of 5.5% during the forecast period from 2018 to 2030. The market growth can be attributed to the increasing demand for electricity and rising concerns over climate change. The market is segmented on the basis of type, application, and region. On the basis of type, the market is segmented into pulverized fuel boilers and circulation fluidized bed boilers. Pulverized fuel boilers are further sub-segmented into stoker fired boiler and grate fired boiler while circulation fluidized bed boilers are further sub-segmented into bubbling fluidized bed boiler (BFB) and circulating fluidized bed boiler (CFB). On the basis of application, coal-fired power plants account for majority share in terms of revenue in 2017 followed by gas-fired power plants and oil-fired power plants respectively. However, gas-fired power plant is expected to witness highest CAGR during forecast period due to stringent environmental regulations imposed by governments across globe coupled with growing preference for natural gas as an energy source over other conventional fuels such as coal & oil .
Product Definition:
A power plant boiler is a large, industrial boiler used to produce steam by heating water. The steam produced is then used to turn a turbine and generate electricity. Power plant boilers are an important part of the electric power generation process and play a critical role in the production of electricity.
Pulverized Fuel:
Pulverized fuel is a mixture of solid particles and liquid carriers, which are used in power plant boilers for the generation of steam. The boiler is an equipment that helps to convert the heat energy from feedstock (fuel) into super-heated vapor, which can then be used to generate electricity. Pulverized fuel consists of solid particles such as coal, lignite or even heavy oil along with liquid carriers such as water or slurry.
Circulation Fluidized Bed:
Circulation fluidized bed (CFB) is a type of combustion process used in thermal power plants. In this process, fuel and oxidizer are mixed and then dropped into the furnace through a hopper. The resulting mixture is spread out in a pool of liquid which acts as an oxidizing agent. Fuel-to-oxidizer mixtures are called feedstock whereas mixtures of oxidizer and air are referred to as flue gas.
Application Insights:
The global power plant boilers market has been segmented on the basis of application into coal, gas and oil. The coal application segment dominated the overall market in terms of revenue share in 2017. This is attributed to an increase in demand for low-cost labor markets and growing investments by governments to support economic growth.
Coal was the largest contributor to greenhouse gasses along with natural gas during the year 2016-17 as they are largely used for generating electricity through combustion turbines at power plants. However, a shift towards cleaner sources of energy such as solar and wind is expected to reduce greenhouse gases over time which may result in lower demand for boilers over time.
Regional Analysis:
Asia Pacific power plant boilers market is expected to grow at the highest CAGR of XX% from 2018 to 2030 owing to increasing demand for power plants in China and India. The growing industrialization, coupled with the need for reliable energy supply, is likely to drive regional growth over the forecast period.
The U.S., which was leading in North America region, has witnessed a decline in its manufacturing sector post-recession due to shifting preference towards emerging economies with low labor costs and easy availability of skilled workforce along with favorable business environment resulting into a decline of manufacturing activities within the country thus affecting industry growth negatively since 2012 however; recovery is still ongoing within this region as several manufacturers have shifted their production facilities outside U.S., thereby creating opportunities for new entrants operating through domestic as well as international markets offering products & services accordingto their specific needs & requirements thus boosting regional growth prospects over next eight years.
Growth Factors:
- Increasing demand for electricity due to population growth and industrialization in developing countries
- Stringent environmental regulations for power plants that use boilers as a source of energy
- Development of more efficient and environmentally friendly boiler technologies
- Growing demand for steam and hot water in various industries
- Replacement of aging boiler infrastructure
