Product Definition:
A turbocharger, or colloquially turbo, is a device used to increase the power output of an internal combustion engine by compressing air that is entering the engine. This increases the amount of oxygen present in the fuel/air mixture which then allows more fuel to be burned resulting in increased torque. The increased air pressure also causes an increase in exhaust gas temperature which can be used to drive a turbine and generate electricity.
Small Type:
Small type turbochargers are used in diesel engines to increase the volumetric efficiency of the engine. They work by increasing the flow rate and pressure of air into the engine, thus making it possible to use less fuel and achieve better results as compared to standard turbochargers.
Medium Type:
The medium type diesel engine turbocharger is a device that aids in increasing the volumetric efficiency of diesel engines by reducing exhaust gas recirculation. The turbocharger’s ability to increase the air intake into an engine while reducing exhaust gas flow allows for more power to be extracted from the engine with fewer cylinders, pistons and valves.
Medium-type turbos are most commonly used on heavy trucks, rail cars.
