The 2000 series is a range of aluminum alloys designed for use in aircraft. The primary function of an aluminum alloy is to provide strength to the structure at minimum weight. Aluminum has approximately 50% more metal than zinc and 20% more metal than copper, making it one of the lightest metals; however, due to its high strength-to-weight ratio it is widely used in structural applications.
