The two-seat autogyro is a lightweight unpowered rotorcraft that has no fuselage and seats only the pilot. It was developed in France from the late 1940s to early 1950s, shortly after helicopters were first introduced. The autogyro’s simple design and ease of flight made it popular among recreational users as well as farmers looking for a low cost method of aerial farming to supplement their incomes.
