Market Overview:
The global automotive shock absorber market is estimated to be valued at US$ XX Mn in 2018 and is projected to reach US$ XX Mn by 2030, exhibiting a CAGR of X.X%. The growth of the automotive shock absorber market can be attributed to the increasing demand for passenger vehicles and commercial vehicles across the globe. The global automotive shock absorber market has been segmented on the basis of type, application and region. On the basis of type, the global automotive shock absorber market has been segmented into single-tube shocks absorbers and twin-tube shocks absorbers.
Product Definition:
An automotive shock absorber is a device designed to smooth the ride of a vehicle by dissipating kinetic energy as heat. The main purpose of an automotive shock absorber is to keep the tires in contact with the road surface as much as possible, and thereby improve traction, steering response and overall handling.
Single-Tube Shock Absorbers:
Single-tube shock absorbers are used in automobiles to reduce the vibrations or shocks that occur when a vehicle is in contact with an uneven road surface. Single-tube shock absorbers are also known as hydraulic isolators and they consist of a chamber containing fluid which is isolated from the rest of the car by means of a piston. The movement of this piston generates vibrations that are absorbed by the oil, ultimately reducing any impact on vehicle occupants and tires.
Twin-Tube Shock Absorbers:
The twin-tube shock absorbers are two parallel tubes made from rubber or polymer material. The main function of the twin-tube shock absorber is to reduce the shocks that occur due to bumps in roads and prevent vehicle from moving forward or backward. It works by compressing air within the inner tube and outer tube, which reduces momentum of vehicle movement, thus preventing it from moving further.
Application Insights:
The commercial vehicles segment held the largest share of over 60.0% in 2017. The growth can be attributed to the rising demand for heavy-duty trucks, buses and coaches from developing countries such as China, India and Brazil. In addition, increasing utilization of these products in off-road vehicles is expected to drive the demand for automotive shock absorbers over the forecast period.
Passenger vehicle application segment is estimated to witness significant growth owing to increased consumer spending on passenger cars as a result of high employment rates and rapid urbanization in major economies such as Germany, Japan and U.K.
Regional Analysis:
Asia Pacific dominated the global market in 2017 and is expected to continue its dominance over the forecast period. The region accounted for a share of more than 30% in terms of revenue and is anticipated to grow at a CAGR exceeding 6% from 2018 to 2030. This growth can be attributed primarily to rising sales of passenger cars, as well as commercial vehicles, in China on account of favorable government policies such as tax incentives & rebates on new energy vehicle purchases along with free parking spaces near offices & schools.
North America held a significant share in the overall industry demand owing to high consumer preference towards safety features within automobiles that have been engineered into them by their manufacturers coupled with stringent regulations laid down by regulatory bodies such as NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) and ANSI (Automotive National Safety Institute). These regulatory requirements are likely drive regional product demand over the next eight years. For instance, according to SAE International Inc.
Growth Factors:
- Increasing demand for luxury and comfort in vehicles
- Rising disposable income of consumers in developing countries
- Technological advancements in automotive shock absorbers
- Stringent government regulations for vehicle safety standards
- Growing popularity of off-road recreational activities
