It is used to calculate the capacity of desalination plants and can be used as an alternative to GPD (Granular Permeability Design) when there are no salinity measurements available for design purposes. The value given represents approximately how many times a particular treatment process can be applied before producing 1,000 liters (1 m3) or 100% fresh water.
