Market Overview:
The global difficult fractures market is expected to grow at a CAGR of 5.5% during the forecast period from 2018 to 2030. The growth in this market can be attributed to the increasing incidence of fractures, rising geriatric population, and technological advancements in fracture treatment. Based on type, the global difficult fractures market is segmented into clavicle type, pelvis type, and others. The clavicle type segment is expected to account for the largest share of the global difficult fractures market in 2018. This segment is further divided into sub-segments namely humerus shaft fracture, distal clavicle fracture (DCF), and other clavicle fractures. The humerus shaft fracture sub-segment is expected to account for the largest share of this segment in 2018 owing to its high incidence rate across all regions studied in this report.
Product Definition:
A difficult fracture is a fracture that is difficult to treat. This can be due to the location of the fracture, the severity of the injury, or other factors. Difficult fractures can be more complicated and require more time and effort to heal properly. They may also require special equipment or treatment methods.
Clavicle Type:
Clavicle type is a fracture of the collar bone or shaft. It’s caused by excessive force in an upward motion and most commonly seen in sports players. The injury pattern is usually two cracks at the base of the neck, just below the voice box (larynx). Treatment for this injury includes strict bed rest, splints, traction and casting which helps healing process along with preventing further injuries from occurring.
Pelvis Type:
Pelvis type is a classification based on the structure of pelvis. It helps in determining the treatment and management of fractures, spinal injuries, hip ailments & other pelvic problems. Pelvis can be classified into three types: acetabulum (hips), sacrum (tailbone), and coccyx (coccyge). The most common area for pelvic fractures is tailbone due to its smaller size compared to other parts of pelvis.
Application Insights:
The adults segment held the largest share of 60.0% in 2017. The application of metal implants is becoming popular as an alternative to bone grafts and bone substitutes for treating a variety of difficult fractures, especially those that occur in older patients or are caused by trauma. As per the U.S National Library of Medicine National Institutes of Health, metal implants are used to treat about 80% to 90% cases involving long-bone fractures in children and about 50% cases involving long-bone fractures in adults worldwide.
Metal implants can be inserted into the area where there is no blood flow or insufficient blood flow due to a blockage caused by tissue swelling, which helps stimulate new bone formation.
Regional Analysis:
Europe dominated the global market in terms of revenue share in 2017. The presence of well-developed healthcare infrastructure and high awareness levels among patients and practitioners are some factors attributing to its large share. In addition, increasing cases of sports injuries due to participation in various sports activities is also one factor driving the regional market growth.
Asia Pacific is expected to be the fastest growing region during the forecast period owing to rising disposable income, improving healthcare facilities, increase in consumer awareness regarding treatment options for bone fractures as well as other associated disorders such as osteoporosis and breaks caused by trauma & violence, etc., leading to severe injuries </span>"& amp;"gt;;="" src="' alt="'" /> Asia Pacific has a huge population base with a high incidence rate of bone fractures that need immediate medical attention & require surgical intervention on account of their complexity or severity.
Growth Factors:
- Increasing incidence of fractures: The increasing incidence of fractures is one of the key growth drivers for the difficult fractures market. According to a study by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), in 2010, around 8 million Americans suffered from a fracture, which is likely to increase in the coming years due to the aging population. This will create demand for better treatment options for difficult fractures, thereby driving growth of the difficult fractures market.
- Rising awareness about advanced treatment options: There is a growing awareness among patients and healthcare professionals about advanced treatment options available for treating difficult fractures. This is helping to drive demand for better treatments and therapies, thereby propelling growth of the difficult fractures market.
- Growing number of surgical procedures: The number of surgical procedures being performed globally is increasing at a rapid pace owing to various factors such as rising incidences of bone diseases and disorders, technological advancements in surgery, etc. This is resulting in an increase in demand for implants and other devices used during surgeries, which are used to treat difficult fractures effectively. Thus, this trend is expected to fuel growth prospects for the global difficult Fractures market over the forecast period 2017-2025).
