Product Definition:
A digital potentiometer is a device that can be used to control the level of voltage or current in an electronic circuit. The device has three terminals: one for the input, one for the output, and one for ground. The input terminal is connected to a resistor ladder, while the output terminal is connected to an amplifier or other circuit element. Turning the knob on the potentiometer adjusts the resistance on the ladder, which in turn changes the voltage or current at the output terminal.
Non-Volatile:
Non-volatile memory is a type of memory which can retain data even when power is lost. The most common example of non-volatile memory used in personal computers are the RAM ( Random Access Memory) sticks. In contrast to volatile memories such as SRAM, DRAM, and FRAM; which retain data only while power is present; non-volatile memories can store information even without power being connected to the system.
Volatile:
A volatile is an electronic component used to measure the voltage. It can be either analog or digital depending on the type of measurement it performs. The most commonly used types of Volatile are resistive, capacitive and inductive. A typical example of a resistive volatile is a thermometer that measures temperature; while a typical example of a capacitive volatile is an LCD display that displays text information such as speed etc.
