Product Definition:

Diisobutyl adipate (DIB) is a colorless, oily liquid with a faint ethereal odor. It is soluble in most organic solvents, but miscible with water.


DBA, also known as Diisobutyl Adipate is a white crystalline compound and has a strong odor. It is soluble in ethyl ether, acetone and water. DBA can be formulated either as an individual component or in combination with other chemicals such as BTX (Butyl Tertiary Xylene) for use in rubber processing applications.


DIBA, or Diisobutyl Adipate is a white crystalline compound used in the production of polyurethane elastomers. It is an organic liquid that has low vapor pressure and boiling point. DIBA finds application as a processing aid for manufacturing high-performance elastomers by reacting with reactive agents such as butyl diisocyanate (BDI) and hexamethylene diisocyanate (HDI).

Application Insights:

Plasticizer application dominated the global market with a share of over 40.0% in 2017. The product is used as a plasticizer for polyvinyl chloride, polystyrene, and other plastics. It is also used as an additive in epoxy resins to improve adhesion between the resin and metal surfaces such as aluminum & steel.

The cosmetic industry has emerged as one of the major consumers of diisobutyl adipate due to its properties including low irritation index (akin to mineral oil) and high viscosity (resistance towards penetration by water). These properties make it suitable for use in cosmetics & personal care products where skin contact may occur with clothing or other fabrics drenched with adhesive substances like lotions, oils or creams already containing adhesives/sealants that may cause skin problems later on if not washed off properly.
