It has been developed to overcome the drawbacks of 1-wire technology, which includes high power consumption and low transmission range. 2-Wire uses two separate copper wires for transmission of data from the sensor to the control unit and back again; thus there are no direct electrical connections between sensors and controls, making it safer than 1 wire system.
3-Wire:
The 3-Wire is a device used to transmit the data from dissolved oxygen Transmitters (DOT) to the monitoring system. It consists of three conductors that are connected in series with a voltage source. The output signal from the dissolved oxygen transmitter is applied to one of the conductors, and if there is an error in transmission then this conductor gets isolated by high-impedance condition.
