Cascaded electroosmotic pumps are used to move fluid in both directions (perpetuum or backward flow). They work on the basis of electrochemical potential difference between two electrodes. Porous Electroosmotic Pumps:


Porous electroosmotic pumps (PEO) are used for moving fluids with the help of osmosis. Owing to their porosity, they can deliver a higher flow rate than conventional semi-permeable membranes. PEO is made from highly porous polyethylene and has a large surface area, which increases the probability of molecular diffusion across its membrane.
