Product Definition:
Extreme Pressure Additives are a type of chemical that is used in lubricants to help protect the components from wear and tear. These additives work by forming a film on the surface of the component that helps to keep it separated from the other surfaces. This reduces friction and wear, which can cause damage over time.
Chlorinated Paraffin:
Chlorinated paraffin is a waxy solid hydrocarbon and has been used as an additive in the manufacturing of extreme pressure additives for over 40 years. It is also referred to as chloro paraffin or carboxy methylcellulose (CMC). Chlorinated Paraffins are prepared from crude oil by treatment with sodium hypochlorite which gives it a bluish color.
Sulphurized Fats:
Sulphurized fats are vegetable oils that have been treated with sulfur dioxide to increase their content of phospholipids. Sulphur dioxide treatment increases the proportion of negatively charged phospholipids in the oil, which results in making it water-soluble.
Application Insights:
Automotive was the largest application segment in 2017 and is projected to witness significant growth over the forecast period. Automobiles are manufactured in a way that they can withstand high pressure levels. However, additives help reduce friction and wear & tear of engine components when subjected to high pressure.
