A flat panel detector is a device used in medical imaging that replaces the traditional image intensifier/TV camera combination found in many radiographic and fluoroscopic systems. Indirect conversion Full-Photon Deposition (FPD) is a new technology that uses X-rays to produce images of the internal anatomy. The FPD process utilizes an optical fiber for transmission of X-ray image data to a digital detector, which is then converted into an electronic image. Indirect conversion FPDs are majorly used in flat panel detectors as they provide high resolution and sensitivity along with fast scanning capabilities.


Direct Conversion FPDs:


Direct conversion flat panel detectors (FPDs) are thin film semiconductor devices that detect X-rays on the surface of the material by means of conduction and convection. The FPD is a direct replacement for traditional x-ray tubes in medical imaging applications. It can be used as an alternative to conventional x-ray tubes in medical imaging applications, which makes it suitable to replace them with no or minimal modifications required to existing systems.
