Market Overview:
The global fly ash aggregate market is estimated to be valued at US$ XX Mn in 2018 and is projected to reach US$ XX Mn by 2030, exhibiting a CAGR of X.X% during the forecast period. The market growth can be attributed to the increasing demand for fly ash aggregates from various end-use industries such as building materials, gardening, food and drink, petrochemistry and others. On the basis of type, Class F fly ash aggregate is expected to account for a larger share of the global market during the forecast period. This can be attributed to its superior properties such as high compressive strength and low water absorption which make it suitable for use in various applications such as construction & infrastructure projects, paving slabs & blocks etc. On the basis of application, building materials segment is anticipated to hold a dominant position in terms of revenue contribution throughout the forecast period.
Product Definition:
Fly ash aggregate is a type of crushed stone that is created when coal-fired power plants burn coal. Fly ash aggregate has many uses, including as a base for roads and highways, as fill material, and in concrete.
Class F:
The global market for class F fly ash aggregate is expected to witness significant growth over the forecast period. Fly ash is a fine powder material obtained as a by-product of burning coal in power plants. It has high cation exchange capacity and low alkali content, making it an ideal raw material for use in the construction industry.
Class C:
Fly ash aggregate, also known as cenospheres or common flint, is a naturally occurring fine powder made up of siliceous material and carbon. It occurs in the form of rounded particles ranging from 0.1 to 200 µm across in sedimentary rocks. The primary component making up fly ash is calcium carbonate (CaCO3).
Application Insights:
Building materials was the largest application segment in 2015, accounting for over 70% of the global market. Fly ash is used as a filler material in concrete and as a strengthening agent in concrete that acts as an effective alternative to portland cement due to its high compressive strength. Rapid urbanization coupled with rising housing needs across various regions is expected to drive growth over the forecast period.
The product has found widespread applications in gardening including using it directly on soil or mixing it with soil before adding plants, bulbs or seeds. The use of fly ash helps improve soil texture and increases water retention capacity along with other benefits such as longer life span of plant roots and better nutrient absorption by plant leaves which results into increased yield for gardeners worldwide, especially those living near coal-fired power plants where fly ash is produced commercially.
Regional Analysis:
Asia Pacific dominated the global fly ash market in terms of both volume and revenue. The region is expected to witness significant growth over the forecast period owing to rapid industrialization, coupled with rising construction activities in emerging economies such as China and India. In addition, growing demand for cement from developing nations such as Indonesia and Malaysia is expected to drive regional product demand over the coming years.
The Middle East & Africa was another prominent consumer of fly ash products with a share of 7.4% in 2017 on account of increasing investments by domestic players coupled with government support for promoting domestic manufacturing capabilities within member states including Egypt, Nigeria, South Africa, Saudi Arabia etc.; which will lead to an increase in consumption levels over the next eight years; however limited availability at affordable prices may act as a restraint factor during this period; hence impacting overall industry growth positively or negatively depends upon various macro-economic factors such as economic development along with changing regulatory scenario within individual countries; e.g.
Growth Factors:
- Increasing demand for Fly Ash Aggregate from the construction industry as a result of growing population and rapid urbanization.
- Rising awareness about the benefits of using Fly Ash Aggregate among architects, engineers, and builders for sustainable construction practices.
- Growing use of Fly Ash Aggregate in precast concrete products due to its superior properties such as high compressive strength and durability.
- Increasing demand for lightweight aggregates in paving applications to reduce the weight of pavements and improve their performance characteristics.
- Technological advancements that have led to development of new types of Fly Ash Aggregates with better mechanical properties
