Product Definition:
1,3-Propanediol is a colorless and nearly odorless liquid that is slightly sweet tasting. It is used as a solvent, in the production of polyesters, and as a chemical intermediate. 1,3-Propanediol can also be used as an ingredient in cosmetics and personal care products.

Bio-based PDO is a renewable feedstock for producing Polydextrose (PDX), which is further used to produce specialty polymers, such as Polylactic Acid (PLA) and Bio-Polyethylene Terephthalate (BPET). PLA and BPET are widely used in various applications including food packaging, automotive parts manufacturing, textiles & fibers production.
Petrochemical Based PDO:
Petrochemical-based PDO is a colorless liquid with an odor similar to petroleum. It is usually stored in steel or plastic drums and sold in flakes or powder form.
Application Insights:
Polytrimethylene terephthalate (PTT) was the major application segment and accounted for over 50% of total market volume in 2017. PTT is a polymer used as an oil-resistant fiber that is extensively utilized to make carpets, fabrics, and paper.
