MTBE cracking is the last step in the production of 2-methylprop-1-ene (115-11-7) which is a key intermediate for manufacturing methyl tertiary butyl ether (MTBE). The process involves heating crude oil with methanol to produce syngas, which after treatment with sodium methoxide yields MTBE.


The global demand for MTBE has been on a rise owing to its increasing application as an oxygenate in gasoline blending.


Tert-butanol (TBA):


TBA is an organic chemical, which is colorless and volatile with a fruity odor. It is also used as a solvent in the production of paints, varnishes, lacquers, and printing inks.
