Air Cycle Air Conditioning:


Air cycle air conditioning (SCA) is a method of providing cooling to an aircraft that is based on the principle of creating a wind-driven circulation within the cabin. SCA systems are increasingly being used in modern aircraft as they contribute significantly towards reducing the overall weight, and therefore fuel consumption, of an aircraft. Additionally, studies suggest that if every seat in an airplane had access to an SCA system then it could reduce airborne obesity by 30%.


Vapor Cycle Air Conditioning:


Vapor cycle air conditioning (VCA) is a technology that extracts the heat from the refrigerant and disperses it into the atmosphere. It is used in aircraft cooling systems to reduce cabin temperature. VCA works by using a vapor compression system which uses hot air from outside to cool down the inside of an aircraft, thereby reducing its overall temperature.


The working principle of vapor cycle air conditioning is based on evaporation.


Application Insights:


The general aviation segment held the largest share of over 50.0% in 2017. General aviation aircraft are single-aisle, narrow-body propeller airplanes that seat fewer than 100 passengers and are typically less expensive to purchase than wide-body jets. These aircraft operate on short flights between cities and airports with a single stopover, which results in high demand for ACSS among such operators as it provides effective cooling at a lower cost.
