Aluminum Oxynitride is a ceramic material that has many uses, including as a coating for dental implants and other medical devices. It is also used in the manufacture of semiconductors and optical lenses. Spinel is another ceramic material that has a number of applications, including use as an abrasive agent and in the production of optical materials.
Aluminum Oxynitride:
Aluminum oxynitride is a solid material, which is made up of only one element, namely nitrogen. It has the formula Al2O3N(NO3)2 and was first synthesized in 1960 by the reaction between nitric acid and aluminum. The synthesis process for this compound has been developed through trial & error method over many years; hence there are no standard or commercial production methods available as of now.
Spinel:
Spinel is a long-chain aliphatic amorphous solid, which is soluble in organic solvents and water. Spinels are transparent with respect to their optical properties and may be colorless or nearly so. The product has an odor similar to that of wet dog.
The product was first synthesized by the fusion of tetrahydrofuran with spin-drying benzene (1962).
