Market Overview:

The global anhydrous ammonia tanks market is expected to grow at a CAGR of 5.5% during the forecast period from 2018 to 2030. The market growth can be attributed to the increasing demand for anhydrous ammonia in various applications such as power stations, industrial, chemical industrial, natural-gas, pharmaceuticals and others. Additionally, the growing population and rising income levels are also contributing to the growth of this market.

Global Anhydrous Ammonia Tanks Industry Outlook

Product Definition:

Anhydrous ammonia tanks are storage tanks for anhydrous ammonia, a colorless gas with a pungent odor. Anhydrous ammonia is used as a fertilizer and as a refrigerant.

1000-5000 L:

1000-5000 L is the range of capacity for anhydrous ammonia tanks. It’s a measure of volume for liquid with less than 10% weight or volume content of water. 1000-5000 L is used to store anhydrous ammonia which has its concentration more than 99%. The storage tank should have a pressure rating equal to at least 2 x atmosphere (IP) times the highest operating pressure in order to avoid risks due to overpressure.

5000-10000 L:

The 5000-10000 L is a range of capacity for anhydrous ammonia tanks. It’s major applications are in the poultry industry, swine industry and cattle industry. The 5000-10000 L tank can hold up to 1,000 kg of anhydrous ammonia which is used as a fertilizer for plants during the growth phase. It also helps in maintaining humidity levels and preventing fungal attacks on plant life.

Application Insights:

Power stations were the largest application segment in 2017 and accounted for a market share of more than 40% in terms of revenue. The chemical industry is anticipated to be one of the fastest-growing industries globally, which will fuel demand for anhydrous ammonia tanks over the forecast period. Ammonia is used extensively across several sectors such as food & beverage, paper & pulp, textiles and chemicals among others owing to its superior characteristics including high nitrogen content and low toxicity as compared to other industrial chemicals.

The natural gas sector also accounted for a significant market share in terms of revenue due to increasing use of anhydrous ammonia as a cryogenically frozen liquid natural gas carrier within pipeline transportation systems worldwide. Increasing use cases such as LNG carriers on accountof their ability to reduce greenhouse emissions are expected drive global demand further over the coming years.

Regional Analysis:

Asia Pacific dominated the global market in 2017 and is expected to continue its dominance over the forecast period. The region has been witnessing strong economic growth on account of increasing industrial output, especially in China, India, South Korea and Japan. Increasing population coupled with rising living standards have spurred demand for energy resources such as electricity and natural gas which is expected to drive regional product demand over the forecast period.

The growing chemical industry due to rapid urbanization along with increasing foreign investments in India has led to an increase in production capacity of anhydrous ammonia across various applications such as power generation, petrochemical manufacturing and pharmaceuticals among others. This factor is also projected to fuel market growth during the estimated time span.

Growth Factors:

  • Increasing demand for anhydrous ammonia in agricultural sector for crop production is expected to drive the market growth.
  • Growing demand from end-use industries such as fertilizer, chemical, and food processing is anticipated to boost the market growth over the forecast period.
  • Technological advancements in manufacturing process of anhydrous ammonia tanks are projected to fuel the market growth over the next few years.
  • Rising investments by key players for expansion of production capacities is likely to propel the market growth during forecast period.
