The global animal foot rot market is segmented by type, application, and region. By type, the market is divided into oral, injection, and other segments. The oral segment accounted for the largest share of the global animal foot rot market in 2017 owing to its easy availability and low cost as compared to other methods of treatment such as injections or implants. By application, cows accounted for the largest share of the global animal foot rot market in 2017 followed by pigs and sheep respectively. North America was estimated to account for majority of revenue share followed by Europe in terms of revenue generated from sales through veterinary clinics across different regions during 2018-2030 period.
Product Definition:
Animal foot rot is a disease that affects the hooves of animals. It is caused by a fungus, and can lead to lameness and other health problems.
Oral:
Oral is a term used for diseases that are caused by bacteria entering the body through mouth. There are various types of oral disease such as periodontal disease, gingivitis, dental caries and stomatitis. The most common cause of oral problems in animals is poor hygiene or lack of it. Other factors that can cause oral problems include poor diet quality, stress & trauma to teeth & mouth and genetic disorders among others (Feline Oral Disease).
Injection:
Injection is a method of treating foot rot in animals. It is most effective when used along with other treatment methods as it helps to strengthen the animal's immune system against future infections. Injection can be given every 8 to 12 weeks and will continue to help until the animal is able to obtain its own food or until it has been taken back by the owner.
Application Insights:
The application of the animal foot rot products includes cows, pigs, sheep and other animals. The cows held the largest share in terms of revenue in 2017 owing to high demand for dairy products coupled with rising income levels across several countries such as India, China and Brazil. Furthermore, increasing meat consumption is expected to boost product demand from 2018 to 2030.
Pigs are second largest consumers of animal foot rot due to their interest in rooting out diseases through regular visits to piggeries or farms where they get access to different types of feed including offal and bone meal along with various medicines that are mixed together. This has led pigs owners towards purchasing injections which have been proven effective against swin flu among other diseases that affect pigs globally.
Regional Analysis:
North America dominated the global animal foot rot market in 2017. The U.S., in particular, is a major consumer of meat from animals that have been diagnosed with this condition. According to the North American Meat Institute (NAMI), consumption of ground beef has witnessed a significant decline since 2013 owing to high consumer awareness regarding BSE and other similar conditions among consumers as well as food processors.
Asia Pacific is expected to be one of the fastest-growing regions during the forecast period owing its increasing population coupled with rising disposable income levels among consumers especially in China.
Growth Factors:
- Increasing demand for meat and dairy products from developing countries is expected to drive the growth of the animal foot rot market.
- Rising awareness about the benefits of using probiotics for livestock is projected to fuel the growth of this market in the near future.
- Growing investments by key players in research and development activities is likely to propel the growth of this market in coming years.
- The increasing number of outbreaks caused by Foot-and-Mouth Disease (FMD) is anticipated to boost demand for animal foot rot products over the forecast period. 5
