An annular blowout preventer (BOP) is a device used to seal a wellhead in the event of a blowout. The annular BOP is the most common type of BOP and consists of two metal plates that clamp around the wellhead.


Working pressure


The working pressure of the annular blowout preventer is the maximum internal pressure that can be achieved in an annulus between two concentric pipes. The working pressure is used to measure the efficiency of a BOP and it depends on various factors such as type of pipe, material, installation condition and other operating conditions.


In general, high strength steel piping with good welds are preferred for BOP installation. Steel piping having a thickness less than or equal to 0.

The working pressure of annular blowout preventers is the internal pressure within an annulus or ring-shaped structure formed by two concentric tubes. The inner tube is smaller in diameter than the outer one and acts as a seal to keep out the atmosphere.
