Product Definition:


Apoptosis is the process of programmed cell death that occurs in multicellular organisms. It is regulated by genes and proteins that are responsible for apoptosis, such as caspases. The importance of apoptosis is twofold: first, it eliminates damaged or unnecessary cells; second, it plays a role in embryonic development and tissue homeostasis.


Direct Apoptogens:


Direct apoptogens are chemicals that induce cell death by different mechanisms. The most common way is by causing cysteine proteases to act on the outer mitochondrial membrane and cause it to permeate, which results in the release of pro-apoptotic proteins such as cytochrome c into the cytosol.


First Generation Indirect Apoptogens:


Indirect Apoptogens are chemicals that when added to the cell culture medium, bind to death receptors on the cell surface and trigger an apoptotic response in a target cell. The most commonly used indirect apoptogen is Poly (ADP-ribose) polymerase (PARP) inhibitor. PARP inhibitors work by inhibiting the activity of PARG, which is an enzyme involved in DNA repair and degradation of chromatin during S phase.

The cancer segment dominated the global apoptosis market in 2017 owing to increasing prevalence of various cancers, such as breast cancer, colorectal cancer, lung cancer and prostate cancer.
