Market Overview:

The global autoclaved lightweight concrete (ALC) market is expected to grow at a CAGR of 5.8% from 2018 to 2030. The growth in the ALC market can be attributed to the increasing demand for green buildings and rising awareness about the benefits of using ALC. In terms of volume, the residential building segment is expected to account for the majority share of the global ALC market in 2018. However, with increasing demand for energy-efficient and sustainable construction solutions, commercial buildings are projected to witness highest growth during the forecast period.

Global Autoclaved Lighweight Concrete Industry Outlook

Product Definition:

Autoclaved lightweight concrete (ALC) is a type of precast concrete that is made from a mixture of cement, sand, water and aggregate. The aggregate in ALC can be either natural or artificial. The mix is placed into a mould and then autoclaved, which is a process that uses high pressure and temperature to make the concrete cure.

A major advantage of using ALC over traditional heavyweight concrete is its weight. Autoclaved lightweight concrete weighs about one-seventh as much as traditional heavyweight concretes, making it easier to handle and install.

ALC Blocks:

Autoclaved lightweight concrete (ALC) is a special type of concretes, which has high strength and durability. It also reduces the carbon footprint significantly as compared to traditional concrete. ALC is produced by using cement-based materials such as portland cement, fly ash, silica sand and water at a very high temperature; around 2200 C.

ALC Panels:

Autoclaved Lighweight Concrete (ALC) panels are made from polyvinyl chloride and are available in various colors. These panels can be used to form an aesthetically appealing concrete surface, which is waterproof and resistant to corrosion. ALC offers several advantages over conventional concrete including reduced labor time, ease of use, cost-effectiveness, safety & security of the structure as well as environment.

Application Insights:

The demand for the product in residential buildings was valued at USD 2.5 billion in 2016 and is expected to grow at a CAGR of XX% from 2017 to 2030. The growth can be attributed to increasing urbanization resulting in rising disposable income, which, in turn, will propel the demand for houses and apartments over the forecast period. Moreover, governments across various countries are taking initiatives such as providing subsidies for first-time home buyers who are living below or just above the poverty line as well as low-income households that make up part of moderate-income families will also contribute towards segment growth during the forecast period.

Commercial building construction is one of the major application areas where ALC blocks are used owing to their lightweight properties that enhance energy efficiency by reducing heating & cooling costs while simultaneously reducing environmental impact including carbon emissions.

Regional Analysis:

The Asia Pacific dominated the global market in 2017. The region is expected to witness significant growth over the forecast period owing to increasing construction activities and growing population in countries, such as China and India. In addition, rising disposable income levels are anticipated to fuel demand for commercial and residential buildings in this region.

North America is projected to be one of the fastest-growing regional markets from 2018 to 2030 owing a large extent of old buildings being replaced with modern structures that meet green building standards set by governments across U.S., Canada, Mexico, etc.

Growth Factors:

  • Increasing demand for Autoclaved Lighweight Concrete in construction industry as a result of its superior properties such as high strength-to-weight ratio, thermal insulation, and fire resistance.
  • Rising awareness about the benefits of Autoclaved Lighweight Concrete among architects, engineers, and contractors due to its eco-friendly nature and low maintenance requirements.
  • Growing use of Autoclaved Lighweight Concrete in infrastructure projects owing to its ability to withstand seismic activity and extreme weather conditions.
  • Proliferation of prefabricated construction methods that employ Autoclaved Lighweight Concrete for faster project completion times and reduced labor costs.
