Semi-oscillating fifth wheel coupling is a device used in heavy commercial vehicles to connect the rear of a semi-trailer to the tow truck or another trailer. The coupling consists of two metal plates, which are clamped by means of springs between them. As there are no direct mechanical connections between these two plates, they act as an intermediary and transfer energy from one plate to another via springs.
