The opening allows the pressure inside the cap to equalize with atmospheric pressure, which eliminates any risk of explosion. Vented caps are used on low and high-pressure systems; they have openings or vents in them so that steam can escape and let pressure equalize between the coolant system and atmosphere, preventing any risk of a boilover.
Non-Vented Cap:
The non-vented cap is a type of heat exchanger which has no provision for venting. It is usually used in automotive radiators to provide an efficient cooling solution and prevent the formation of condensation. The non-vented cap design offers better thermal performance as compared to its counterpart, thus making it popular among consumers.
