A transmission pump is a component of a vehicle's automatic transmission. It circulates the fluid that transmits power from the engine to the transmission. The pump is usually located in the same housing as the torque converter.


Fixed Displacement Pump:


Fixed displacement pump is a mechanical device used to move fluid. It has one or more chambers, the chamber walls are rigid and the fluid movement is achieved by means of a diaphragm, reciprocating piston or impeller. The fixed displacement pumps can be sub-divided into positive displacement pumps and negative (or backward) displacement pumps.


Variable Displacement Pump:


The variable displacement pump is used to transfer liquids in automotive transmission systems. It can be classified into two types, namely positive displacement pumps and negative displacement pumps. The variable displacement pump has a diaphragm as its main component which allows it to change the volume of fluid being pumped by contracting and expanding the diaphragm accordingly.
