Recombinant avidin, also known as biotin-binding protein is a protein that binds biotin. It is manufactured by the fermentation of Escherichia coli and can be purified by using conventional techniques such as gel filtration, ion exchange, and centrifugation. Native Avidin:


Avidin is a naturally occurring biodegradable polymer, derived from the amino acid lysine. Avidin finds application in diagnostic and research laboratories as well as in the medical industry for therapeutic purposes. It is used to treat diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis by reducing inflammation. Avidin also has applications in ophthalmic surgery and dentistry for its use during surgeries to prevent infections from bleeding or swelling of tissues or cells respectively.
