It also helps to keep the cells in place, preventing them from shifting around and coming into contact with each other. This can lead to short circuits and fires.
Silane Modified Polymers (SMP):
Silane modified polymers (SMP) are a group of high-performance materials that combine the properties of silicones and polymers. Silanes are compounds containing an SiH4 group. They can be either synthetic or natural in origin, however, most commercially available products are synthetic in nature. SMPs have been used as sealants for over two decades; their first commercial application was as a battery sealant in the early 1990s.

Polyurethane (PU) is a polymer, which is manufactured by the catalytic reaction of an organic compound with hydrogen. The most commonly used raw materials for manufacturing PU include tetrahydrofuran, 1-butene, and 2-methyl butene. It has high thermal stability and excellent mechanical strength along with being able to withstand high temperatures. These properties have made it one of the most widely used sealants in battery applications over the past few years.
