A bimetallic thermometer is an instrument used to measure temperature. It consists of two strips of metal, one made of a heat-sensitive alloy and the other of a non-heat-sensitive alloy, that are joined together. When the temperature changes, the metal strips expand by different amounts and this causes the strip to bend. The amount of bending can be measured and used to calculate the temperature.


Angle Type:


Angle type bimetallic thermometer is a combination of two thermometers, one for the liquid and other for the gas. It’s an effective device to measure temperature in liquids and gases at same time. The working principle of this instrument is based on infrared radiation which passes through the sample body and reflects back by infrared receiver located inside it.


Straight Type:


The straight type bimetallic thermometer is a combination of two thermometers, one for the liquid and other for the gas. It has an advantage over traditional mercury-in-glass thermometers as it can measure temperature in both directions (up & down). This makes it ideal to be used in refrigerators and freezers where food is stored.


Straight type bimetallic thermometer consists of two separate probes made from different materials that are inserted into the same unit.
