Market Overview:
The global bio-insecticides market is expected to grow at a CAGR of 10.5% during the forecast period from 2018 to 2030. The growth in this market can be attributed to the increasing awareness about the benefits of using bio-insecticides, rising demand for organic food, and stringent regulations on the use of synthetic pesticides. The global bio-insecticides market is segmented by type into bacteria thuringiensis, Beauveria bassiana, and Metarhizium anisopliae. The bacteria thuringiensis segment is expected to account for the largest share of the global bio-insecticides market in 2018 owing to its high efficacy against a wide range of pests. By application, the home use segment is expected to account for the largest share of the global bio-insecticide market in 2018 owing to growing consumer demand for organic pest control products. Geographically, North America is estimated to dominatethe globalbio - insecticide smarket in2018 .S.), and DuPont(U . S .
Product Definition:
Bio-insecticides are the class of insecticides that can be derived from natural materials. Bio-insecticides include products that are derived from plants, bacteria, and fungi. Bio-insecticide products have been available for many years and their use is increasing as concerns about the environmental effects of synthetic pesticides increase.
The importance of bio-insecticide usage is twofold: environmental and health. First, bio-insecticides often have lower toxicity to humans and other nontarget organisms than synthetic pesticides. Second, they can often be used in a more targeted manner than synthetic pesticides, which means they can be applied at lower doses with less risk to the environment.
Bacteria Thuringiensis:
Bacteria thuringiensis (BT) is a naturally occurring soil bacteria. It produces a protein called “Bt” which has the ability to kill insect pests such as caterpillars, maggots and larvae of flies, wasps and mosquitoes among others. BT also emits an endotoxin which has the ability to kill some insects but not all.
Beauveria Bassiana:
Beauveria Bassiana (BV) is a plant hormone that controls the growth of plants and has insecticidal properties. It can be extracted from Bauhinia racemosa, which is native to China and Japan. BV has been known to have an effect on caterpillar metabolism by changing their behavior, morphology & physiology as well as by affecting their reproduction.
Application Insights:
The commercial application segment dominated the global bio-insecticides market in 2017, accounting for over 70% of the overall revenue. The segment is expected to witness significant growth owing to rising demand from major crops including cotton, soybean and maize. In addition, increasing use of these products by pest control companies for mass trapping has further propelled industry growth.
Home use accounted for a smaller share in the overall revenue as compared to commercial applications due largely to high costs associated with it. However, awareness regarding effective management of household pests through bio-insecticides is expected to increase over time which may result in higher penetration at home levels also. This factor along with others will determine future market trends at a macro level also influencing regional markets positively or negatively depending upon their proximity respectively.
Regional Analysis:
North America dominated the global market in 2017. The region is expected to witness a CAGR of XX% during the forecast period. This growth can be attributed to increasing incidence of vector-borne diseases and rising awareness among people for bioinsecticides as an alternative solution for conventional pesticides. Increasing number of manufacturers, distributors, and retailers in this region is also contributing towards market growth.
Asia Pacific is anticipated to grow at a lucrative rate during the forecast period owing to rapid urbanization resulting in increased construction activities which attract pests like mosquitoes.
Growth Factors:
- Increasing demand for organic food: The global market for organic food is projected to grow at a CAGR of more than 14% from 2016 to 2021. This growth can be attributed to the increasing awareness about the benefits of organic food among consumers. Bio-insecticides are used in organic farming and thus, the demand for bio-insecticides is expected to rise in tandem with the growth of the global organic food market.
- Stringent regulations on synthetic pesticides: Governments across the world are increasingly imposing stringent regulations on synthetic pesticides due to their harmful effects on human health and environment. This is driving farmers towards using bio-insecticides as an alternative to synthetic pesticides, which is boosting the growth of this market.
- Rising consumer preference for natural products: Consumers are becoming increasingly aware about the harmful effects of synthetic chemicals present in everyday products such as cosmetics, detergents, etc., and are preferring natural alternatives such as bio-based products. This trend is benefitingthe bio-insecticide market as well, with consumers shifting towards using ecofriendly insecticides that do not pose any threatto human health or environment..
