Product Definition:


Biosolids management is the process of managing biosolids produced during wastewater treatment. This includes collecting, treating, and disposing of biosolids in a way that protects public health and the environment. The importance of biosolids management is that it helps protect public health and the environment by ensuring that treated biosolids are disposed of in a safe and effective manner.


Aerobic Digestion:


Aerobic digestion is the process of breaking down and processing of organic waste into carbon dioxide, water, and other end products. The by-products such as heat and sludge are used for energy production or disposed off in landfills. This system has been gaining importance owing to the growing concerns over greenhouse gas emissions from municipal solid waste (MSW). aerobic digestors reduce methane gas formation during decomposition thereby reducing the amount of landfill required.


Anaerobic Digestion:


Anaerobic digestion is a biological process that involves the breakdown of organic compounds in the absence of oxygen. The anaerobic process produces biogas, which consists of methane, carbon dioxide and hydrogen sulfide. Anaerobic digesters are used for treating municipal solid waste (MSW), agricultural waste or industrial wastewater to produce energy, heat and biofertilizers.


Application Insights:


Municipal administration was the largest application segment in 2016, accounting for over 60% of the global biosolids management market. The product is used as a fertilizer and soil conditioner in urban farming and gardening activities across various regions. Biosolids are rich in nitrogen, phosphate, potash, magnesium and sulfur which makes it an ideal fertilizer for use in vegetable gardens and fruit orchards.
