Herbicide tolerance is the ability of a plant to withstand contact with herbicides. There are two types of tolerance, physical and chemical. Physical herbicide tolerance involves the change in structure of a plant so that it is not affected by the presence of the chemical; this type can be seen in plants like soybean, corn, and wheat.


Insect Resistance:


Insect resistance is a natural tendency of plants to develop an immunity against insects that try to eat them. This protection mechanism enables the plant to survive and grow despite the presence of pests, diseases or other challenges. Biotech companies have been using insect resistant varieties for many years now and it has helped in increasing crop yield by up to 50%.


Application Insights:


The market is segmented by application into corn, soybean, cotton and canola. The corn application segment accounted for the largest revenue share in 2017 owing to its high consumption as food and animal feed. It also finds applications in the production of biofuels and biochemicals such as dextrose, maltodextrin and starch.
