A car exhaust heat recovery system is a device that captures the heat from a car's exhaust and uses it to warm up the engine or the interior of the car. This is important because it allows the engine to run more efficiently and reduces emissions.


Exhaust Gas Heat Recovery (EGHR):


Exhaust gas heat recovery (EGHR) is a process of using the exhaust gases from an engine to generate energy that is used to power the car. The concept was first implemented in heavy trucks and then it gradually made its way into passenger cars. In this process, instead of getting converted into useful thermal energy, part of the exhaust gets reflected back to the engine which increases its temperature by about 50-100 degrees Celsius.


Rankine Cycle Systems:


The Rankine cycle systems are used in the Car Exhaust Heat Recovery System (CEHRS) to provide heat energy for car engines. The CEHRS is a closed-loop system, which means that all exhaust gases enter theRankine cycle system and are re-exhaled with water as a coolant.


Application Insights:


Passenger vehicle was the dominant application segment in terms of demand and accounted for a revenue share of over 60.0% in 2017. The commercial vehicles are expected to witness significant growth on account of increasing government funding for promoting investments from automotive manufacturers and other companies involved in R&D activities related to HVHRS.


The recovery process uses the heat generated by exhaust gas combustion to warm up water which is then used to drive an electrical generator, thus recovering energy that would otherwise be lost due largely, but not exclusively, to parasitic losses occurring during conversion from mechanical into thermal energy or from thermal into mechanical energy. These losses can be reduced if the system is designed properly with proper insulation as well as if it is integrated with advanced control systems that take care of all aspects including temperature regulation, mass air flow management along with providing error-free data regarding engine load conditions at any given time etc., thereby contributing significantly towards overall market growth over the forecast period.
