Market Overview:
The global car ignition coil market is expected to grow at a CAGR of 5.5% during the forecast period from 2018 to 2030. The market growth can be attributed to the increasing demand for automobiles, especially in developing countries such as China and India. Additionally, the increasing demand for luxury cars is also contributing to the growth of this market. The global car ignition coil market can be segmented on the basis of type into single-spark and multi-spark coils. The single-spark coils segment is expected to account for a larger share of the global car ignition coil market than multi-spark coils during the forecast period from 2018 to 2030.
Product Definition:
A car ignition coil is an induction device used to create high-voltage sparks required by the spark plugs to ignite the fuel-air mixture in the engine. The ignition coil is powered by the 12-volt battery and it sends a current through a primary winding, which creates a magnetic field. When enough energy accumulates in this field, it collapses, sending a high voltage pulse through the secondary winding and into the spark plug gap.
Single-Spark:
Single-spark is the name given to a type of spark plug that was initially designed for use in chainsaws. However, it has since found its way into other applications such as car ignition coils and is used there instead of the conventional spark plugs because of benefits such as better heat resistance and less chance of causing an explosion or fire.
Multi-Spark:
Multi-spark is a type of spark plug that can produce more than one spark at a time. It helps to enhance the performance and reliability of the vehicle. The most common example would be an NGK SPARK PLUGS, which has two or four sparks in it. These multi-spark plugs are used in applications where there is no need for more than one spark at a time, such as diesel engines or compression ignition (diesel) engines.
Application Insights:
OEMs generate higher revenue as they have complete control over the price, quantity and distribution channels. The OEMs of the global car ignition coil market are Continental AG, Infiniti Qoros; Nissan; Mitsubishi Motors Corporation; Toyota Motor Corporation; Honda Motor Co., Ltd.; Volkswagen AG Audi AG, Mercedes-Benz. These companies have their own distribution channels which include independent dealerships as well as directly through their website.
The aftermarket segment is expected to expand at a CAGR of XX% from 2018 to 2030 owing to growing awareness among consumers regarding product quality and durability along with cost savings obtained by opting for remanufactured products in comparison with new ones. Moreover, key players in this market are offering high-quality ignition coils manufactured using superior quality materials that deliver excellent performance at a lower price tag compared with factory original equipment products (OE). This is likely to increase demand for remanufactured parts over the forecast period.
Regional Analysis:
Asia Pacific dominated the global car ignition coil market in 2017. The region is expected to continue its dominance over the next eight years. This can be attributed to increasing automobile production and sales in countries, such as China, India, Japan and South Korea. Moreover, rising disposable income of consumers coupled with high demand for vehicles among people living below poverty line will boost regional growth further.
The European market accounted for a significant share of the overall revenue in 2017 owing to growing automotive industry across several countries including Germany, France Italy and Spain among others.
Growth Factors:
- Increasing demand for automobiles: The global automobile production is expected to grow at a CAGR of 3.5% during the forecast period, owing to the increasing disposable income and changing lifestyle of consumers. This is expected to result in an increase in the demand for car ignition coils, as they are an essential component of automobiles.
- Technological advancements: The car ignition coil market is witnessing rapid technological advancements, with manufacturers focusing on developing innovative products that offer improved performance and durability. This is likely to fuel the growth of the market in the coming years.
- Rising awareness about vehicle safety: There has been a rising awareness among consumers about vehicle safety features over the past few years, which has led them to increasingly opt for cars that come equipped with advanced safety features such as car ignition coils that provide enhanced performance and reliability under all conditions.
