These polymers are used as flocculants in water and wastewater treatment, where they cause suspended solids to aggregate into larger particles that can be more easily separated from the liquid.


Solid Particles:


Solid particles, also known as cationic polyacrylamides (CPA), are synthetic water-soluble polymer particles. Cationic polyacrylamides have anionic cross-linking agents such as N-ethyl morpholinecarbamate (EMC) and 1-(2-hydroxypropyl)pyrrolidinium chloride (HPPLC). The solid particle size of CPA is usually below 200 nm.


Emulsion:


Emulsion is a stable dispersion of two or more immiscible liquids, usually oil and water. The most common types of emulsions have oil dispersed in water (emulsified lube), in which case the term “emulsion” is also used for the suspension; similarly, there are also emulsions with water dispersed in alcohol or vice versa.


Application Insights:


The product is used as a thickening agent and rheology modifier in the paper manufacturing industry. It helps to maintain the fiber length, strength and reduce shrinkage during drying, which improves printability of papers produced using wood pulp as a raw material source.


Papermakers have been using PCA for more than two decades to produce high-quality specialty papers with enhanced brightness, opacity and smoothness that are suitable for printing or laminating applications. These products help enhance printability by reducing ink absorption into fibers thus providing an excellent basis for offset printing press operations or digital printers where high image quality is required without compromising with costs involved in production process optimization.
