Market Overview:
The global central line market is expected to grow at a CAGR of 5.5% from 2018 to 2030. The growth in the market can be attributed to the increasing incidence of chronic diseases, rising geriatric population, and technological advancements in central line devices. Based on type, the global central line market is segmented into single-lumen, double-lumen, triple-lumen, and other types. The single-lumen segment is expected to dominate the market during the forecast period owing to its low cost and easy availability. Based on application, the jugular vein segment accounted for majority of share in 2017 and is projected to maintain its dominance during the forecast period. This can be attributed to increasing use of jugular vein as a route for administration of drugs and fluids owing to its large diameter as compared with other veins in human body.
Product Definition:
A Central Line is a tube or pipeline that carries fluid, gas, or other material under pressure from one part of a system to another. It is an important piece of infrastructure in many industries.
Single-lumen:
Single-lumen is a type of central line used for intravenous (IV) fluid administration. It consists of a single plastic tube that can be inserted into the patient's vein to deliver IV solutions or medications. The growing geriatric population and increasing incidence rate of hospital-acquired infections are expected to boost the growth of this market during the forecast period.
According to statistics published by WHO, it was estimated that in 2015 there were 703 million people aged 65 years.
Double-lumen:
The double lumen central line is a medical device used to drain fluid from the abdominal cavity. It consists of two hollow plastic tubes joined by a flexible hose. One end of the tube is attached to an external suction pump and other end is inserted into the patient's body, usually through a vein in the wrist or ankle. The flexible hose allows for easy positioning and prevents kinking which minimizes risk of infection or damage to tubing.
Application Insights:
The others application segment includes saphenous vein, iliac vein, cephalic vein and brachial vein. The other central line applications include jugular or subclavian veins as well as femoral or brachial veins. Femoral venous access is the most popular method of accessing a patient¢â‚¬â„¢s circulatory system for the administration of chemotherapy drugs and fluids during medical procedures such as hip replacement surgeries.
Femoral venous access allows easy access to the patient¢â‚¬â„¢s circulatory system without having to go through the difficult process of cannulation into an artery via a peripheral intravenous catheter first. This also helps in reducing blood loss and infection risk due to introduction of an external device directly into internal organs such as heart, lungs, liver & kidneys via major arteries & veins respectively (1).
Regional Analysis:
North America dominated the global central line market in 2016 with a revenue share of over 40%. The growth can be attributed to factors such as favorable reimbursement policies, increasing government initiatives, and high incidence of chronic diseases. For instance, in 2014 Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) implemented the Interim Final Rule that removed restrictions on central venous catheters and clarified certain aspects related to their use.
Asia Pacific is expected to witness lucrative growth during the forecast period owing to factors such as improving healthcare infrastructure coupled with rising prevalence of target diseases. Moreover, an increase in number of surgeries due to growing geriatric population will drive demand further. In addition, economic development has led hospitals & clinics into investing more money for purchasing advanced medical devices which would result into increased adoption by Central Line Market players over next eight years time frame in this region’s market share estimates are based on 2016 data).
Growth Factors:
- Increasing urbanization: The Central Line market is expected to benefit from the increasing trend of urbanization, as more and more people move to cities. This will lead to an increase in demand for transportation and infrastructure facilities.
- Rising income levels: There is a growing middle class in developing countries that is expected to drive demand for better transportation and infrastructure facilities, including the Central Line market.
- Improved economic conditions: Improved economic conditions are leading to increased investment in transport infrastructure, which is benefiting the Central Line market.
- Growing population: The population of many countries in the region is growing rapidly, which is resulting in an increase in demand for transportation and other infrastructure facilities, including those offered by the Central Line market players.
