A chemical foam blowing agent is a substance that is used to produce foam, usually by the release of gas. The gas can be carbon dioxide (CO2), nitrogen (N2), or a halogenated hydrocarbon. The main purpose of using a chemical foam blowing agent is to increase the insulation value of the material being foamed.


Endothermic:


Endothermic is the capacity of an animal to generate body heat and is used as a blanket term for all animals that produce heat. The ability to generate body heat allows animals to regulate their internal temperature, increases metabolic rate, aids in digestion and helps maintain other bodily functions. Endotherms are also referred to as cold-blooded or ectotherms because they differ from endogeny which means the capability of producing or restoring body temperature by shifting metabolism towards thermogenesis (heat production).


Exothermic:


Exothermic is the heat released when an agent is triggered to react exothermally. In chemical foam blowing agents, exothermic reactions are utilized to generate heat for foaming and expanding the polyurethane foam. The most common trigger agents used in these systems are amines (such as dimethylpiperazine), alcohols (such as methanol), and other organic acids such as formic acid, acetic acid, lactic acid, etc.
