Product Definition:


Chloroquine phosphate is a white or almost white, crystalline powder, freely soluble in water. It is obtained from the bark of cinchona ledgeriana trees. Chloroquine phosphate tablets are indicated for the prophylaxis and treatment of malaria due to Plasmodium vivax, Plasmodium falciparum, or chloroquine-sensitive species of Plasmodium malariae. They are also used for amebiasis.


250mg:


250mg is the standard dose of chloroquine phosphate used to treat malaria. It is a first-line treatment for P. falciparum infections and has been in use since the early 1960s, with no real alternatives or substitutes having been developed yet. 250mg tablets are white wafers with "CP" printed on them in black ink, which was previously used as an anti-counterfeiting measure for Coca-Cola products globally (but not limited to).


500mg:


500mg is an antiviral medication used to treat viral diseases like chickenpox, measles, and German Measles. It is also used to treat infections due to malaria and HIV/AIDS. 500 mg of Chloroquine phosphate tablets can be taken every four hours as needed for the treatment of malaria.


Application Insights:


The malaria application segment accounted for the largest share of 41.1% in 2017 owing to presence of ongoing COVID-19 vaccine trials for prevention against malaria and other vector-borne diseases. The product is under preclinical phase and has shown promising results against malarial parasites, which may lead to its clinical use in near future.
