Market Overview:

The global class 1E power cables market is expected to grow at a CAGR of 5.5% from 2018 to 2030. The growth in the market can be attributed to the increasing demand for class 1E power cables from various end-use industries, such as oil and gas, chemical, and mining. In addition, the growing demand for high-voltage transmission lines is also contributing to the growth of this market. Based on type, the global class 1E power cables market can be segmented into single conductor and multi conductors. The single conductor segment is expected to account for a larger share of this market in 2018.

Global Class 1E Power Cables Industry Outlook

Product Definition:

Class 1E power cables are designed for use in areas where there is a potential for an explosion. The cables are constructed with extra insulation and shielding to prevent the spread of fire or electrical sparks. They are also flame-retardant, which helps to prevent the ignition of any flammable materials that may be present. Class 1E power cables are important for safety reasons, as they can help to protect people and property in the event of an explosion.

Single Conductor:

Single conductor is also known as single-stranded or simple cable. It has only one wire throughout the entire length which is used for power transmission. The signal and power are carried by this wire in the form of an electric current. Single conductor Class 1E Power Cable can carry up to 3, 6 or 9AWG wires and have a maximum capacity of 0.5AMPS (As per ISO 10528).

Multi Conductors:

Multi-conductors are used in Class 1E power cables to provide short circuit resistance and ability to sustain high electrical loads. Multi-conductor cable consists of more than two conductors that allow current flow between any two devices or between any device and Earth Ground. The number of wires in a multi conductor cable can vary from 2 to 8, but the majority of them have 6 wires.

Application Insights:

The Class 1E power cables are used in various applications including inside the reactors and outside the reactors. The inside the reactors application segment dominated the global market with a share of over 80.0% in 2017, owing to its ability to withstand high electrical currents without suffering from any damage. This is beneficial for nuclear power plants as they operate on high voltage levels ranging between 3,000V and 35,000V.

The outside the reactor application segment is expected to grow at a CAGR of XX% from 2018 to 2030 due largely to its ability supply electricity across long distances thereby eliminating dependency on single source of generation or transmission facilities which are prone to natural disasters such as earthquakes.

Regional Analysis:

Asia Pacific regional market accounted for the largest share of global 1E power cables market in 2016. The growth is attributed to the presence of nuclear reactors in countries such as China, India, and South Korea. In addition, increasing electricity demand-supply gap is expected to drive the Asia Pacific region's growth over the forecast period.

The Middle East & Africa (MEA) and Latin America regions are anticipated to witness steady growth owing to their rapidly expanding economies and rising energy demand from various end-use sectors such as transportation, industrial automation among others. MEA region has witnessed a significant increase in investments from major players for building new nuclear reactors which will further boost industry expansion over next eight years.

Growth Factors:

  • Increasing demand from the construction and infrastructure sectors
  • Rapid urbanization and industrialization in emerging economies
  • Rising demand for electricity due to population growth and economic development
  • Technological advancements in electrical equipment that require high-quality power cables
  • Stringent government regulations mandating the use of Class 1E power cables in critical applications
