Didecyl Dimethyl Ammonium Carbonate (DDAC) is a quaternary ammonium compound with the formula [(CH3)2C(O)N+](CH3)3CCONH4. It is used as a surfactant and antimicrobial agent.


DDAC 50%:


DDAC 50%, it's usage.


It is a colorless liquid that dissolves in water, alcohol, and ether.


DDAC 70%:


DDAC 70% is a colorless liquid with a mild odor. It is soluble in water, ethanol, and diethyl ether. DDAC 70% can be manufactured by the double decomposition of dimethylbenzene or by heating to reflux under an atmosphere of nitrogen dimethylbenzene (NDB) for about 4-5 hours.


Application Insights:


Wood preserving was the largest application segment in 2017 and is expected to witness growth over the forecast period. DDAC 70% is used for wood preservation as it imparts good adhesion, hardness, and strength to wooden surfaces. It also helps preserve the color of wood while providing a protective coating. The product has high demand from various end-use industries including construction, marine, furniture manufacturing owing to its excellent water resistance properties.


DDAC 50%, 80%, and 90% are majorly used in oil & gas applications as drilling muds or washout waters wherein they act as a vital medium for carrying away cuttings from drill pipes without dissolving them into surrounding environments. They are also used during natural gas production by treating produced water with it so that it can be reused or discharged into waterways after undergoing several purification processes at onsite facilities using an appropriate solvent such as alcohols or glycols along with deoiling polyelectrolytes (DOPE).
