99% (Purity) is a colorless liquid, which is used as an illuminant and also for the detection of purity in various products. It has a strong odor similar to that of hexane. 99% (Purity) can be produced by fractional distillation or by double decomposition. The latter process involves heating at a high temperature with the presence of catalyst metals such as zinc, copper, or nickel along with other rare earth metals under extremely basic conditions.
